Snickers is having problems (again) - this time with gas. I’ve noticed that he stinks frequently and sometimes lets out fluid that smells so bad.
One of the causes of cat flatulence is eating too quickly, which I’ve noticed with my cats because they seem to be always starving.
Solution:
- Slow feeder dish to slow down eating
- Premium grade wet food so they don’t feel too hungry often (Innova is stocked in Petbarn and Pets Paradise)
Also the litter box is overflowing with urine. It’s good in a way because I know it means it’s flushing out their system. On the other hand I think I put too much water on their food so it’s better to cut back on that now.
Solution:
- Don’t put too much water in their food
Am also thinking of changing their litter box system again - this time to keep the area clean and sanitary for their health.
Solution:
- Increase number of litter boxes to 2
- Switch litter to clumping as it’s more sanitary (Brands: Catlux Softwood Clumping, Max Cat Litter [RSPCA], Catsan Ultra Clumping Clay Litter)
- In the event that I choose a non-biodegradable one - a closed bin to keep the poo
- Litter mat to prevent tracking
I know it seems that I pamper my cats too much… but after having a scare with Snickers’ UTI problems, the truth is my cats aren’t just pets for me… they are part of my family and I would never let anything happen to them, especially if I can do something about it.
